Vivian looked between them carefully. Two men. Both dangerous in different ways. Both trying to protect her. Both hiding things. And she no longer knew who she trusted more. Maybe neither. Thunder shook the windows again. Then suddenly the office lights flickered once. Everyone froze. The lights flickered again. Then went out completely. Darkness swallowed the office instantly. Vivian’s breath caught sharply. “What the hell—” Emergency backup lights activated seconds later, casting the entire floor in dim red illumination. The atmosphere turned eerie immediately.

I collapsed back onto the floor, helpless. The basement light flickered—and kept flickering, like it was about to go out any second.

Absolute, crushing darkness swallowed the grand Dimitri estate. Only the synchronized, rhythmic flashing of the red tactical emergency lights illuminated the endless, maze-like corridors, casting long, bloody shadows against the ornate crown molding. The eerie silence that followed the power cut lasted barely a single second. Then..........*BOOM!*

At 2:41 the lights flickered. It was only a brief dip — the fluorescents dimmed, recovered, dimmed again but the sudden change made the whole store feel smaller. I looked up from the cart. Julian had already lifted his head. Our eyes met across the room for longer this time. Neither of us spoke. The lights steadied, humming back to their usual flat brightness, and the moment passed. I told myself it was nothing.

The archives were plunged into a thick, suffocating darkness, a darkness so absolute that it felt as though the world had simply ceased to exist. I froze, my breath hitching in my throat. The darkness was a physical weight, pressing against my eyes, making my head spin. I waited, my heart hammering a frantic rhythm, for the lights to return. For a second, there was nothing but the sound of my own ragged breathing and the frantic thudding of my pulse. Then, with a sudden, jarring hum, the lights flickered back to life. They didn't return to their full brightness, but they cast a dim, yellowish glow over the room, a sickly, uncertain light.

He opened his mouth to speak, his hand twitching at his side as if he wanted nothing more than to reach out… The elevator jerked violently. The overhead lights flickered once, twice, and then went off completely, plunging us into darkness as the lift groaned to a dead halt between floors.

But the light Flickered. And went out.

Suddenly, without any warning, the lights flickered and went off, and I just knew someone was playing a sick game with me. It better not be those maids because I do not have the patience or tolerance for their childish antics. I’m not their friend, and I’m certainly not a kid, so I’m not the right person for them to play such pranks on. I turned around, my heart racing, not bothering to call out to anyone as I made my way to the switch, grabbing the remote with a sense of urgency. As I flicked it back on, the lights blazed to life, illuminating the room for a brief moment. But just as I was about to leave, the lights went out again, plunging me into darkness.

The seal-like mark on her palm was still faintly glowing. FLICKER! Suddenly, the lights in the room began to flicker again. It was terrifying for those in the room, especially the fish tanks containing the grotesque half-human, half-aquatic test subjects. The sight was always revolting. The temperature started to drop, and they began to shiver. The shadows of the strange creatures became more distorted and terrifying in this situation. FLICKER! BANG! All the lights went out. The room was so dark they couldn't see anything. Then, a large gust of wind seemed to sweep past them, making them stagger.
