The moment was electric, charged with unspoken desire, with the promise of a connection that transcended the danger and uncertainty that surrounded them.
Just as their lips were about to meet, the lights flickered, plunging the room into near darkness. A low hum filled the air, followed by a series of clicks and pops.
"What was that?" May whispered, her heart pounding in her chest.
James pulled back slightly, his eyes narrowing in concern. "Power fluctuation," he said, his voice tense. "That's not good."
"What does it mean?" May asked, her voice trembling slightly.
"It means something's interfering with the power grid," James said. "Either a malfunction… or something more sinister."
