I slipped the jacket off slowly. Underneath, I was wearing a black silk vest. I tossed the jacket into the front seat.
I emptied my pockets, keys, wallet, the fancy Italian fountain pen I carried. All placed on the hood of the car. No phone, obviously, I wouldn't trust a Capone house with my burner.
"Pat down," the guard stated.
Two guys moved in. They were thorough, running rough, expert hands over my sides, my back, searching the lining of my vest. I stood still, completely relaxed, letting them do their job.
