His gaze finally lifted, sharp now. “And why do I get the feeling Camille’s been whispering in your ear again?”
Her silence was confirmation enough.
Damien stood, setting his papers aside, and crossed the room toward her. The shift was subtle, but the space between them seemed to thrum. He lifted his hand to her cheek, his thumb grazing along her jaw, and despite herself, her breath caught.
“Don’t let her get in your head, Serena,” he murmured, his voice low, velvet-edged. “She feeds on cracks.”
