He kept reading his papers, his back was straight and his shoulders were relaxed, like he didn't have a care in the world.
"You're dismissed," he said.
I stood up. "You can't just—"
"You're dismissed, Elara."
I wanted to scream. I wanted to grab his chair and spin him around and shake him until he gave me an answer. But I knew it wouldn't work, he was a wall, he was stone, and I was just a girl in a contract who had agreed to be his Doll.
I walked to the door. Stopped. Turned back.
"If this goes wrong," I said, "I'm not going down with you."
