Just the three of us—a normal family having a normal dinner.
Except I was still trying to get used to the word family. I looked at Charlotte, then at Liam. My husband. My daughter. People I had apparently loved for ten years, even though to my brain, I had only known them for two days. It was bizarre, yet... remarkably comfortable.
Then Charlotte suddenly asked, "Mommy, did you know Daddy used to hate—"
She cut herself off mid-sentence.
Liam’s expression changed instantly. "What?"
Charlotte looked at her father, then darted her eyes toward me. "Never mind."
