Chapter 12 - Nightmares Apollo’s POV I decided to take the first watch. I told Imelda that I would switch out after a few hours. But realistically, I won’t wake her. She needs her sleep more than I do. I don’t really sleep anymore. I haven’t for a long time. My brain is always too busy to allow me a moment of rest. I’m constantly thinking of new tactics, new ways to better my training. New ways to protect our people and prevent another war from ever happening. Prevent anyone else I care about from a torturous death.

He carries me in, navigating carefully through the chaos of shopping bags scattered across the floor. “Don’t mind them,” I murmur. “They’re my babies… they just need sleep too.” He lowers me gently onto the bed, careful, reverent. When he straightens to leave, I grab his shirt. “Not so fast, Iron Man.” He freezes. His jaw tightens, ears flushing red. “You okay?” he asks softly, eyes searching mine. “I think so,” I whisper. “You need rest,” he murmurs, leaning closer, voice dropping. “Tomorrow’s a big day. You need your strength.”

I thought he had to be close to waking up but imagined there was still work to do on Tara’s neck that would wipe him out again. He took a slurp and made a face. “Yeah, it is.” Laughing, I explained, “I’ve never cared much for the stuff but needed something to keep myself awake.” “I’m really not that tired,” he admitted, though he seemed surprised. “Most Guardians don’t sleep a lot.” I wondered if anyone had ever told him that. ETHAN'S POV 1 MONTH LATER “You may not know this, but you’re not Superman,” Carter says as he walks into my office, balancing a steaming cup of coffee in his hands. His tone is a mix of sarcasm and genuine concern. “You need to eat, drink, and, hey, sleep.”

It seemed like it was true. Being human was quite challenging. “Do you still need to catch up on sleep?” Serenity questioned. As soon as Zachary held Serenity’s hand, he led her outside and smiled as they walked. “I’m not Hypnos. I’ve had enough sleep. If I sleep now, I won’t be able to sleep at night. “Do you need some rest?” Serenity replied, “I’ll take a short nap later. I just had lunch, and it would be uncomfortable to sleep right away.”

"No more waking up at six, you will have the extra forty-five minutes sleep starting tomorrow. If you wake up at six again Sophie Summers, I will personally make you sleep forty-five minutes early than usual tomorrow night." I roll my eyes at his ridiculous threat, "You don't have the super power to make me fall asleep forty-five minutes early." "Oh I do," he says cockily. Nathan asked me cheerfully while entering the room. “I am feeling better, bro.” I replied but looked at them worriedly. Adolphus closed the door behind him but looked at me with furrowed brows. “You two didn’t sleep at all?” I asked them worriedly. “Aaahhh…. We are trained enough to stay awake for more than five days in a row if we face crucial circumstances. It’s not a big deal,” Nathan answered nonchalantly, waving his hand dismissively. I knew that but it still didn’t change the fact that they are sleep deprived.

With a dry towel, he patted himself dry and put on some pants before laying himself down on the bed. His right arm was stretched over his head as he looked up at the white ceiling. It was 2 A.M in the morning when he could finally have some rest before waking up at 5. Every day he only had three to four hours of sleep, with occasionally five hours when things were fine. His body had gotten accustomed to it, it was not the healthiest habit, but as someone with his type of work, he simply needed to cope with it.

Meanwhile, Summer ignored him and went to sleep. She wasn't a robot. If she didn't get enough rest, she wouldn't be able to work, unlike James. He was a weirdo who had enough energy after sleeping five hours a day. On the other hand, she had to have at least nine hours of sleep.
