THE HOSTAGE'S DILEMMA
His hand gestures, a silent invitation, "Come to me."
My legs feel unsteady, but I walk towards him, drawn by the pull. The expensive rug feels soft beneath my feet. When I reach the side of the bed, I climb onto it, the mattress dipping slightly under my weight. I crawl towards him, a child seeking comfort. He shifts, opening his arms, and I slide right into them, burying my face against his chest. His heart beats steadily beneath my ear, a strong, reassuring rhythm.
"I’m scared," I whisper, the words breaking free, raw and vulnerable. My voice is muffled against his shirt, but I know he hears me.
