My hands shook as I took the receipt. It wasn't my size. So it wasn't that the suit was too expensive. It was never meant for me. I took a deep breath, straightened my tie, and walked into the ballroom. The venue was stunning. The whispers were impossible to ignore. Everyone had already heard that Sylvia had postponed the wedding again. But I'd personally called every guest and invited them to come anyway. Some weren't even trying to lower their voices. "Luke's pathetic. The bride isn't even coming. Is he seriously planning to do this alone?"

“About who you’ll be getting married to.” My head jerked at the word marriage. What? “You’ll listen, nod and do exactly as you’re told. Because if you don’t…” She stepped closer, voice dropping to a venomous whisper. “I’ll remind him again that you’re a curse, Vanya. And curses need to be locked away before they spread. You, cold-blooded killer. You deserve nothing.” My grip tightened on the broom until the wood creaked, my eyes burning with unshed tears. I didn’t look at her. I never did when she spoke like this. It only fed her hatred.

He muttered, his voice barely audible over the music. With a stagger, Diego turned and disappeared into the crowd. I stood there breathless, a painful sting in my chest. I didn’t have time to think of anything else as Edoardo pulled me into his arms and kissed me, thoroughly, with his hand snaking up to my neck and his tongue in my mouth. He pressed my body up against his, and I felt the powerful power he possessed. . The after-party commenced with everybody in fucking high spirits. I caught sight of Edoardo speaking to Lax. And once I saw him, I didn’t want to look away.

Right before I opened my mouth and let them have it. "You sorry ass piece of monkey shit! Is this what I am in for? Is this what I have to look forward to for the rest of my life?" I shouted, catching them both completely off guard. "Let me let you in on a little secret, Buster… I don't want to marry you either!" I jumped up and screamed in his face.

He never did show up, not even for one moment and I will not be surprised if he does not show up for this wedding either. I pray he does not. "Just focus on the bright side baby.
