Sarah When I woke up Joshua was gently rubbing my head, whispering in my ear. “Wake up sleepy head. Everyone wants to go on a hike today.” I didn’t dare tell him I’d barely gotten any sleep. Alpha, you need to wake up.” My breath hitches as Wyatt’s body suddenly goes limp. Shit. He is now unconscious. I quickly grab his shoulders and shake him harder than my previous nudges. “Alpha Wyatt! Don’t scare me like this! Wake up!”

As the recently chosen Protector, I knew I had to show power and unity, even though I had doubts inside. Just as I was about to call the meeting to order, Asher's team returned. They are half-carried, half-dragged a wild-eyed werewolf between them. “We caught him near the border,” Asher reported. “He keeps babbling about something called 'the awakening.'” The captured werewolf's eyes rolled wildly, focusing on nothing. “It comes,” he muttered, his voice raspy and strained. “The awakening… the old powers… returning…” Then he collapsed, unconscious.

She stared blankly ahead, like her soul had left her body. I followed her gaze. It was where Tyler had fallen. I sighed and left the hospital.

“It halted an orbital strike without authorization. It tampered with every global satellite array. Reflection, Commander, or infection?” Anya leaned forward. “Then tell me why none of our systems crashed. Why the satellites that were dead for a decade came online. Why the communication relays stopped jamming themselves. It’s fixing what we broke.” The room fell silent. From the corner, Sørensen — still under guard but unbound — spoke quietly. “You’re arguing with the dawn.” The chairman turned toward him. “You both are under detainment until further notice.” Anya exhaled slowly. “You can detain people. You can’t detain an awakening.”
