I feel someone’s gaze piercing the back of my skull but when I turn around, I don’t find anyone watching. “I insist.” Sylas says “Thanks for your generosity, but you really don’t have to.” He frowns a little and drops the money in his pocket and looks at me, really looks at me. “What’s your name?” “Dahlia, Dahlia Hollands.” He doesn’t offer his name, he just nods once. I'm Dahlia, CEO of DAHL.” I smiled at her and handed her my card, she took the card from me, then looked at me from head to toes. Her eyes lit up the moment she sighted a scarf wrapped around my neck. “Isn't that Tonia’s latest design? I heard there are only three pieces available in Drawlwood. You managed to get one,” she seemed so excited.

My heart pounded as confusion washed over me. “Dahlia,” I whispered urgently, my eyes never leaving the scene before me. “Why are they holding those gold jugs? What’s in them?” Dahlia’s gaze flickered toward the ring, and I saw the hesitation in her eyes. She opened her mouth to respond but seemed to be searching for the right words. “It’s… a ritual,” she began slowly, her voice barely above a whisper. “The jugs contain a special liquid, a mix of herbs and other things. It’s part of the fight, a test of strength and resilience.”

After they had become mother and daughter-in-law for so many years, she could not say she knew Dahlia completely, but at least fifty percent. Dahlia was an extremely egoistic, selfish, and snobbish person. She would try every trick in the book to get close to people who had a better family background and were beneficial to her. However, she would not bother to be polite to those who were not advantageous to her, like Stella and the Jewell family, let alone beg.

Three women descended after her, all worthy of admiration for their beauty. Blair recognized the effects her appearance had on people. She was used to indignant looks, always wondering if a woman could be that beautiful. "Let's go in" Daliah called.
