She produced a dagger that had a dragon's head carved into the hilt and a golden chalice. She said, "Please hold out your hands." We each held out our hand and she cut each of our hands and let the blood drip into the chalice as she said, "Chloe, you are now granted a dragon spirit to accompany Saige, your wolf spirit." If there was no bite on the back of her neck, Hana thought it was all a dream. That evening, Hana finds a small abandoned cave. From the traces left, Hana thought that this was the nest of the snakes. They may have gone out, so there were only three eggs inside the nest. Hana had just taken a nap when her body warmed up. Dark crimson ink stained the surface—so deep it almost looked wet. Rowan unrolled it carefully, her breath catching as she saw the first words etched in jagged script: “When the Dragonheart dies unbound, fire consumes all.” Her hands trembled. “Nyra… look.” The text stretched on, written in strange rhymes, half prophecy and half warning: “She who bears the fire without bond Shall break the sky and scorch the land. Her cry shall shatter kingdoms, Her heart, unclaimed, shall fall to ash.” Nyra’s face paled as she traced the burned edges. “This isn’t just poetry. This… this happened.”

"Roosevelt, lost in madness, stared with eyes full of bloodlust. Eloise smiled, mocking him. 'I told you I would ruin you, Your Majesty. May bitterness and sorrow be your eternal companions.'" Micha's brows tightened. "She provoked a man who already lost everything. That's suicide." The next lines formed slowly, dramatically. A roar shook the skies. Not human. Not beast. Ancient. I knew, the moment I laid eyes on her again, that something had been awoken within her. I don’t know if I’m concerned, excited or kind of numb by the realisation, but I do know that I read about those traits in one place, and one place only. The Dragon Chronicles, or ‘pamphlet’ as Gabe called it, and now the name has stuck. Gabe and Hunter will never be trusted to name anything, because the names they give most things are either dripping with sarcasm or unnecessarily vulgar.

I thought with a scornful look on my face. "I can't wait to control their feeble mind," Kendra, my dragon, said with an excited look. "For making fun of how I looked." This war had started years ago when I first accidentally found a book titled the first dragons. And then someone helped me to know more about the first dragons, and their history. Everything started with that first book. The book was buried deep in the depth of a library, and that was the only print, I had found out later. The fascination became obsession and the obsession became need.

The dragon blinked a final time and averted its eyes somewhere else as if it had heard her whisper and honored her plea. That was weird. Although the dragon had looked elsewhere, Evrah couldn't help but stare at it. She watched the destruction and chaos it brought to life. The obliteration it seemed to revel in. All of them seemed to be enjoying their devastating results. She had watched them chase folks down, spitting the elements and flame in the direction of her fellows. She had watched as they set everything ablaze, their massive wings fanning the flames as they burned the brightness and vibrancy of existence into nothingness.

Uncle Lucifer said in a low rumbling growl. “Uncle?” Brair asked as we all drew back, fearing an angry Uncle Lucifer. Lucifer sighed, placing the book gently on the coffee table. “That book,” he said, his gaze distant, “details the war and the findings of Draconis Cor—a cult dedicated to preserving the Prophecy of the Dragon.” Uncle Lucifer explained bluntly. “What is the prophecy of the dragon?” Millie asked as she leaned over to look at the book.

Instantly, a powerful pressure full of ferocious aura surged from the iron box! The iron box also shook violently with a loud clanging sound. Roger raised his hand and pressed it in the air! The iron box went quiet. Then, the iron box was opened. Inside was a pure black stone that looked like a heart. It was flickering with red and black lights. “Dragon Heart!” Christian shouted and took immediate action, grabbing the Dragon Heart inside the box with one hand! “How dare you?!” Roger roared and struck out with his palm that carried the might of lightning, giving a blast that went straight for Christian’s stomach!

How I would love to lace my fingers through her hair, pull her head back and watch her wide eyes glaze over with defiance. It was a good look on her. And I would do anything to keep the fire inside of her burning. But it's not my place. I couldn't protect her from the future her parents had planned for her. The beast writhed under my skin, the ink tingling and undulating. How the dragon within me wanted to protect her like she was a part of my hoard. The treasure amongst the gold and jewels. I could imagine Evelyn, with freckled thighs and sun-kissed cheeks, lounging across the gold like she belonged there.
