Before Lyra could react, another vision slammed into her. She saw a throne carved entirely from bone. A dead world stretched beneath a fractured sky. Something had torn reality open above the horizon, leaving a wound across the heavens. From that wound descended a figure wrapped in darkness. The Empty King. And seated beside the throne was a woman wearing the Bone Crown. Not the Hollow Queen. Not some forgotten queen from history. Her. The vision vanished. Lyra staggered. The man in the bone armor stepped into the cave, his red eyes glowing like hot coals. Every step he took left a scorched footprint on the stone. I backed away, clutching Leo so tight I could feel his little heart racing against my own. I didn't know who this demon was, but my soul screamed that he was death itself. "Who are you?" I demanded. For the briefest of moments, she leaned against a tree, catching her breath, preparing for more. She scanned the dark skies, but the dragons seemed to stay higher up than before. The armored vigilantes, relaxed and unbridled by fear of the people, wandered here and there pillaging the dead. It was disgusting and made her skin crawl, but it also gave her the freedom to move within the smoke and shadows unnoticed.
