He drops to his knees and collapses to the floor like a sacks of balls. Dead. Then Damian steps into the light.

“Lessons.” The ground trembled beneath their feet. Cassian and Dorian moved instinctively, standing on either side of Lena, their weapons drawn. Lena’s fingers itched. The air crackled. And then— The floor beneath them collapsed. Falling into the Abyss Lena barely had time to react before the world tilted. She fell fast, the wind rushing past her ears, stone and dust tumbling alongside her. Cassian shouted something, but she couldn’t hear it. Dorian’s form twisted in the air, trying to reach her, but the darkness swallowed them whole.

And then, as quickly as the hug began, it ended. Damien pushed her away, not gently, but with a sudden, forceful shove. Nora, already off balance, stumbled backward, her feet tangling. She fell to the ground with a soft thud. The sound echoed in the sudden silence of the room, a stark punctuation mark to the drama. But Nora didn't register the pain of the fall. She lay there, sprawled on the polished floor, her eyes wide, shocked, and fixed solely on Damien. The expression on her face was one of utter bewilderment, as if the ground beneath her had just betrayed her in the worst way that she had ever seen.

He fell against Cale. SNAP. The sound was like a gunshot. High above, the steel cable sheared. The safety chain failed. The lighting rig dropped. It didn't flutter. It didn't sway. It fell like a stone, accelerating at 9.8 meters per second squared. Elion looked up. He saw the wall of lights coming down. He saw the glass lenses reflecting his own terrified face. He saw death. There was no time to run. No time to jump. He braced for impact. He closed his eyes.

I lost my footing in my anxiety, and with a heart-pounding shock, I dropped from the edge once more, tumbling through the air. As I fell, my shouts rang in the night, a frantic cry for aid. My heart pumped frantically in my chest, fueled by dread and adrenaline. I prayed that some unseen force would intervene and save me from the impending peril below. The world seemed to blur around me, and my fate hung perilously in the balance at that dreadful moment.

The top half of the staircase plunged downward, crashing in a deafening roar of metal and stone. I let out a scream, grabbing desperately onto Dante as the steps crumbled under our feet. The world tilted violently. Dante grabbed me, pulling me against him as we fell. Dust exploded around us. The stairwell collapsed. And then everything went black. My ears rang with a high, piercing whine. My body felt weightless, suspended in a haze of dust and crushing darkness. I tried to open my eyes, but everything was blurred, the world reduced to vague shapes and muffled echoes.

Draco managed to cast a spell breaking the bubble before he died. “Xael!” Xena cries out in horror. Shit! We are falling right into the blazing flames. I don’t see us surviving this. My eyes stay glued on my mate as we fall. She looks devastated, I can’t even link with her. “Babe, come on. Look at me,” I urge right when Diana falls on the floor. My heart breaks when Diana’s body convulses. I have to get to her. “We are falling into flames,” Clint reminds me.

A few steps before I completely descended the stairs, I lost my footing and fell. I had not thought much about death and what would happen after I died, but I was not particularly curious. I screamed as I started to fall backward from the side of the stairs. Someone pulled me before my body went over the edge, and I slammed into a hard chest. Alpha Drake. Still filled with adrenaline from my almost-fall, I raised my head to look at Drake. The breath was immediately knocked out of me.

excited. What is wrong with me? Am I broken? The only thing my head was yelling at me to do now was run. I let out a cry and turned to flee. I got halfway and then collided with a hard surface. I fell. Hard. I started to tremble so hard, I thought I was having a seizure. That was a body. Someone was there, I could bet my life on it. "Are you scared, my love?" A deep voice said from the dark and I raised a shaky hand to my mouth.
