When The Moon Hides Her Crown
Then came the familiar sound, the soft clink of the parrot’s cage hanging by the window.
“My parrot...” I whispered, my heart swelling with joy. I rushed to the window, a smile spreading across my face as I saw my pet, alive, fluttering inside its cage.
But as soon as my fingers brushed the cage, it fell. The bird’s head snapped back unnaturally, and my stomach lurched. I gasped, horrified, my breath catching painfully in my throat. My eyes moved past the cage, and there, in the distance by the water’s edge, I saw the image of my friend falling, her head crashing into the rocks. Her lifeless body lay still, swallowed by the dark water.
