### DANTE’S POV The engine of the flatbed roared to life with a throat-tearing sputter of diesel smoke. Sophia didn’t wait. She slammed the truck into gear, and the heavy vehicle lurched forward, its tires spinning wildly in the mud before gripping the asphalt of the two-lane road. The headlights cut a desperate path through the sheets of torrential rain, illuminating nothing but endless miles of dark, empty pine forests ahead of us.

Perhaps it's effect is only mild. She poured a little of the blood in an empty glass she found on the table, then she added just a little ash and stirred. She frowned when nothing happened. Was the book wrong? If the book was wrong, the book wouldn't be restricted. She then added a little more ash, and the the blood began to foam. Interesting. She watched it closely, taking note of every single change. By the time the blood stopped foaming, it had turned black. She smiled. Now she wondered if this would work on the royal vampires. If only she could get their blood.

“My point, dear, sweet, horny Hudson, is that I don’t have to make a point, my outfit does it for me.” Dominic smirked as Austin hid his chuckle. “You look sinful, Hunter.” “Thank you, Dominic, point made.” Dominic chuckled as Hudson murmured something under his breath. The larger, double seater SUV stood in front of the elevator as the doors slid open. Austin opened the door for Hunter. She slid across the seat and Dominic took a step backwards. Four men slid into the SUV, two in the front and two alongside Hunter. She turned her head and Dominic pursed his lips as the SUV pulled away from them and drove off. He almost felt sorry for the men in that car with her.

I tell him. Flavius nods in response and begins to pack his things. I fill my satchel with various clothing items and few books. "Why are you packing books?" Flavius asks curiously. "Since we are visiting another horde without sending a messenger ahead, I need to bring something that will serve as a gift. Those of the Horde of Fates are known knowledge seekers. I have many books in my private collection that have not been seen since The Fires. They should serve as a suitable present," I say.
