AUTHOR POV: No conceivable reason could have driven Daniel to such a state except for his current inability to process the situation. He loathed himself for not immediately silencing them for their ludicrous claim, but the mounting evidence prevented him from acting rashly. While skepticism lingered, an unquenchable determination burned within him to see this through to the end.

"Did you set a fire just to get me out of there?" Riley laughed and pulled her mom toward her blue Subaru WRX sport. "I wish!" she giggled, amusement shining in her eyes. "Keys," she demanded, sticking out her hand. Cilia handed over the keys without further comment and went around to the passenger side. Like her father, Riley always drove. She'd been driving since before she was old enough for a license. Cilia was long past complaining about who drove her car, as long as she got to where she was going. She relaxed into her seat as Riley reversed out of the parking spot and pulled sharply onto the road. Riley made a point of ignoring the men surrounding the flaming Audi.

he hollered from the driver's seat while driving like a mad man and cackling for effect. Cassie flipped him the bird and struggled into her clothes. She sat at the desk and continued to watch the screen, hoping the mystery man would reappear. A few minutes later Daniel parked the van. He hopped into the back and leaned over her shoulder to watch the screen. His breath against her neck sent a trail of fire coursing through her body. "Anything?" he said.

Daniel's voice was threatening, he gave David a long gaze and David returned it with the intensity of the gaze. "I don't understand what you are saying, sir," David replied and gave a small smile. "Mr Destiny don't test my patience!" Daniel said slamming his hand on his office table. "Why did you have the flash drives, you better start talking!" David started laughing and Daniel wondered what was funny. If not for the boards that employed a roguelike, David...if not for the boards he would have sacked him, straightforward! Maybe not. "Mr, Destiny, I don't think what I said is funny, stop casting your dentition and answer the damn question!"

“I must have died and gone to heaven….” Daniel’s brows furrowed. Damnit, where was the money? He decided he couldn’t wait anymore. He turned around and narrowed his eyes at the driver. “Stay here. I might need you later.” The driver nodded eagerly, his head bobbing up and down like a yo-yo. “Yes sir! Whatever you say, sir! I’m totally at your disposal!” He patted a preoccupied Daniel’s back. “Heck, you can smear the whole car with anything you want!”

I pull it out and see a text from Daniel. Daniel: [Wait for me. I’ll drive you wherever you need to go when I get back.] I scoff, shaking my head as I type back. Me: [I can’t wait for you to get back.] A reply comes almost immediately. Daniel: [Fine. But take a driver with you instead of driving yourself.] I let out a heavy sigh, glancing back at the young driver who had offered. "Alright, let’s go." He nods quickly, moving to open the car door for me. As I slide into the passenger seat, I grip my phone tightly, my mind still buzzing with irritation.

It also set heat rushing down to the deep part of my stomach, but I tried to ignore that part. I asked Daniel if he was done with his show. I made my voice flat because I wasn’t impressed. Daniel didn’t answer right away. He let the scissors hang by his side, then reached into his pocket. When his hand came back up, he held a small silver drive with my name printed on it. Seeing my name there made my pulse jump. He held it like it meant everything. He said the drive would change everything I thought I knew. He said it as if he expected me to panic, but I didn’t. I only watched him with a blank face.
