Drowning Sorrows In Raging Fire Novel Novels & Stories

Amara coughed violently as she clung to the edge of consciousness, the acrid stench of burning wood and ash filling her lungs. The cold pavement pressed against her palms as she tried to ground herself, but the world around her was a cacophony of chaos—screams, sirens, and the distant roar of the inferno consuming the bookstore. Her body trembled, skin slick with sweat and soot. She blinked against the harsh glare of the emergency lights, her vision blurred by the sting of smoke and tears. For a moment, the world felt unreal, like she was still trapped in a nightmare.

I gave up the chance to take over my family's business and spent ten whole years acting as a sports agent for my swimmer boyfriend, Nate. I stayed by his side from his early days to his rise to fame. He promised he would propose to me the day he won the world championship gold. The night of his victory dinner, I eagerly put on a wedding dress. I even invited all our close friends and family to the venue so they could witness the moment together. But as he stood under the spotlight, he looked right past me and his gaze landed on his younger teammate, Lexi, who was smiling brightly and clapping for him nearby. A reporter pushed through the crowd with a microphone and asked on the spot if h

She had already taken in too much smoke and needed fresh air. Cruella fell to the ground, gasping for air while the fire spread and more walls collapsed. “Swayer.” she muttered before the walls around her collapsed on her and everywhere went silent except for the sound of the blazing flame as it burnt the entire building to the ground.

Unfortunately for him, I couldn't stop what had gotten into me. A very loud scream brought me to my logical mind, I then clearly saw what I had done. Someone threw me off the guy who lay on the ground. I widened my eyes in horror then rushed to pick my spectacles that got thrown off during the fight. I had never fought in school or at home no matter what, I had never fought before in my life except for now. Did I just kill the man? My heart started beating faster and the tingling sensation on my arms grew rapidly.

“Do you have any idea what this looks like? You showing up here? Do you think this helps? My name is already a headline because of you!” He flinched, just slightly, but didn’t let go of the door. “You think I don’t know what it feels like to have your life dissected, destroyed by strangers?” His voice deepened, raw and hoarse. “You think I don’t understand being powerless while the world rips you apart?” “Don’t you dare make this about you,” I hissed, but my hand was shaking on the frame. “I’m the one drowning, not you.” His gaze locked on mine. “I’m not here to save myself, Jacqueline. I’m here because I won’t let you drown.”

"Let me hold you a little longer. This has to be a dream…" I reached for the empty bottle by his side and smashed it hard against his head. He went limp, though not a drop of blood was shed. I glanced down at the muddy stains on my clothes in distaste. Without sparing him another glance, I set the flowers I had brought for my parents at their graves and left. … Kathleen welcomed me just as warmly as before. "Guess what? Lucia had a miscarriage and was sent to a mental asylum!" "What did you just say?" I never imagined Raphael could be so ruthless.

I tried to think. Nothing came back. There was no name. There was no Alanza. There was only the pain. Then, the heat vanished, replaced by a soul-crushing cold. I was surrounded by water. It pressed in on me from all sides, heavy and indifferent. I tried to inhale, but my lungs filled with liquid. I felt the frantic, primal urge to thrash, to fight for the surface, but my body wouldn't move. I was sinking into the dark. My chest burned as I drowned in the silence.

" I hovered in the air as a soul, stunned. My heart clenched as I recalled what I said earlier. He was right. I indeed regretted it when he ordered to throw me in the sea. But what I regretted was ever being with him. It finally dawned on me how ruthless he was when he ordered Pete to tie me up and dangle me over the yacht. Desperate to survive, I used the weight of my body to rub against the yacht, again and again, until the ropes tore deeply into my wrists. The will to live fueled my strength, and I was so close to escaping. But as soon as Zachary saw that I was about to escape, he ordered the people to replace the rope with iron shackles.

It pulsed beneath my palm like a heartbeat. I exhaled slowly and pressed my hand against the page. The flames came instantly. They swallowed the book in a soundless roar, a fire without smoke or heat. Before Silas could yank me away, the blaze leapt and coiled around me like serpents. My vision swallowed itself. One blink I stood in our chamber and the next I stood on snow. A village lay in front of me, small and poor and full of smoke. The air smelled of frost. Children chased one another through the mud with sticks and no shoes. I heard laughter and the reason it hurt was because I knew it would not last.

Chaos. One person, completely engulfed in flames, threw themselves over the railing and into the sea. The fire was gone… but so were they. Swallowed by the water, never to surface again. Burning alive or drowning—neither was a good way to go. Raina only looked for a second before the blood drained from her face. Her breath caught. Eyes wide, she stared, frozen. Even Leif and Rayden, strong men who had seen plenty, were visibly shaken by what they saw.
