Whisper of Thoughts
I stood in the doorway, my weapon raised, my eyes wide with terror.
I saw him. He was motionless, his head slumped against the headrest, wires snaking from his scalp like parasitic vines. The blue light in his eyes was dim, flickering like a dying candle.
I took one step forward, the floor beneath me slick with frost. Julian’s eyes drifted toward me. There was no recognition in them—not yet.
The wipe was halfway through. The man who knew my name was struggling to find his way back through the wreckage of his own mind.
