Frustration claws at my chest until my fingers brush against a thick, worn book shoved far back on a lower shelf. The Legend of the Dragon Warriors. I scoff immediately. Dragons. Of course. I almost shove it back. I hate everything that has to do with dragons now. Everything about them reminds me of things I would rather forget, bonds I would rather pretend never existed. But something stops me. Tiny lettering at the very bottom of the spine catches my eye. Blue fire. My pulse stutters. I pull the book out slowly and flip it open. The pages are old. Fragile. The first image nearly knocks the air out of my lungs.

Elaina’s breath caught as he pulled out a thick, aged book bound in dark leather, its surface etched with faded symbols that seemed to shimmer faintly even in the low light. Her heart skipped. “No,” she breathed. “Yes,” Jone said, eyes twinkling. “I call it the dragon compendium. I think you music tunes you speak of is in it… the one you’ve been missing.” Elaina stared at it, stunned. “How… how do you have that?” The book looked exactly like the one they had left behind in the palace… only a little rough due to previous handling. She almost thought it was the same one but she remembered Drake had most warriors were given to book to study from.

I pause for a moment, “Have you found anything in the books?” Taran shakes his head, “No, history is completely different. Even the castle’s history is wrong. It was expanded in the 14th century and funded by an Earl thanking us for keeping the vampires from invading. These books say the Earl built it in the 14th century.” I turn and look at the mythology section of the library. Whispering, “I wonder,” I get up and begin looking for books on dragons. “What are we looking for now?” Taran asks curiously.

When, brother?” Ghaeron forced himself to share the tale of his great shame, one that he had shared with no one since the early days of life on Edon. “Shortly after Mother and Father had brought forth the first life here on Edon, I became fascinated with the complex weaving of mystical forces that had been utilized to do so. Such variety of living creatures had come into being! Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Minotaurs, and a host of lesser known beings, all benign and given great potential for growth. Growth is one of the constants of the universe, as you know. It is ingrained into the essence of Dragons.”
