Hunter As I made my way into the Lab, a strange sensation tickled my senses. Dustin and McKenna were acting peculiar, their faces flushing with guilt as if they had just been caught stealing cookies from the cookie jar. "Please calm down, Ms. Snow," she replied hastily. "Mr. Graham's corpse has been moved to the morgue at the end of the hallway."

He moved closer, though I wasn't afraid. 'What does he want now?' I muttered inwardly, knowing fully well that my job was not to help a stranger. If Clara ever finds out, then I would be doomed. He stood in front of me, his blue eyes fixed on mine. He leaned slowly and I knew he wanted to kiss me, but I didn't move.

He looked away first. “ I need to tell you something, Lenora. If I don’t tell you now…I don’t think I ever will. ” Dustin looked at me again. “ it’s about Striker and what happened at the cabin. ”

Aleah said as she started walking away. "Hey! That’s a little—" Dennis started to follow, but he suddenly stopped when a man stepped in front of him. The stranger wore a hoodie pulled up over a cap, his face mostly hidden in the shadows. The slight tilt of his head made it impossible to see him clearly. "You—" Dennis began, ready to confront the man, but froze when their eyes briefly met. There was something unsettling about those eyes, something disturbingly familiar. It was only a split second, but it felt like those eyes were trying to warn him. Before Dennis could do anything, the man turned and walked off, heading in the direction Aleah had gone.

He watched her until she was out of sight and then slammed the door shut behind her. I stayed hidden in the shadows until I couldn’t hear her footsteps retreating down the tunnel anymore. I emerged from my hiding spot. I had just witnessed something I never could have imagined. Dustin was a demon. The man I had once loved and saved my life all those years ago was a demon. Not only a demon but one who has been plotting some evil plan against us for years. The fear of knowing how ruthless he can be wasn’t processing. Now I am being forced to contemplate who else is lurking in these tunnels or in the compound for that matter and who I could trust.

Dustin glances my way, a strange fleeting look in his eyes before he fixes his gaze on the window again. “ It’s time you know one thing. ” He says, composed and calm. I stiffen. “ what? ” “ That woman… ” He starts, “ She is not our mother. ” Dumbfounded, I stare at his side profile. Dustin glances down for a moment before looking up again. It’s like he is making a decision. “ What do you…mean? ” I whisper, unable to control my escalating heartbeat.

The house is suspiciously empty or maybe Heather doesn’t know about his son’s dirty little secrets, whatever it is, its benefitting me. “No.” I hear a voice, her voice. She’s yelling, Dawn. I smile leaking profligacy off my mouth. I charge forward thoughtlessly, I smile. “Kai will kill you.” I hear her voice again followed by a yell, a yell of a man. That’s Dustin. I kicked the door open letting it fall on the ground producing a loud thud. Her eyes on me as she slammed her knotted legs in his abdomen. Dustin’s back met the floor but he quickly stood up.

I wondered what he was going to do if he discovered the person who'd told me about his dead mate. Picking myself up from the floor, I slipped out of his study and started to head towards my room when I noticed that he was at the bottom of the stairs with a stranger I hadn't seen before. The stranger's green eyes met mine for a second before refocusing on my master. Quickly, I pressed myself against the wall to hide. "Your control is slipping, Daxton," I heard the stranger say. The tribrid alpha stayed silent, and his companion let out a sigh.
