I would have felt better if I had been able to tell Harrison this before everyone else, but there wasn’t time. “Sasha is the one who started the war with the Shifters,” I announced. “She broke the treaty oath that my mother, Alpha Katerina, swore with the werecats and killed innocents in their clans.” Harrison’s mouth dropped open. He looked at Sasha, stunned, as though he had never seen her before.

“The old tunnels connect to the lower levels. But they are heavily guarded. We will have to move carefully, quietly. And we will have to face whatever the Council throws at us.” I looked at the fortress, at the pulsing core, at the cages filled with my ancestors. “Then we move.” I stepped forward, the crown blazing on my brow. “Very few injuries on our side, nothing serious. We’re working on patching over the other chapters. Two left.” “Patching over?” Laura murmured, “What’s that mean?” I pushed off the counter and moved to stand behind her, my hands resting on her shoulders. She leaned back into me instinctively, and I felt that ache in my chest again. “Means we’re absorbing them,” I explained, my voice low. “Their chapters, their members, their territory. They either join the Warriors or they’re out of the game entirely.” She tilted her head, looking up at me with those big blue eyes. I always felt like they could see straight through me. “And if they don’t want to join?”

But so would the power. I looked out across the square, at the rising omegas, at the crumbling order, and at the Moon screaming its fury above us, and whispered to myself: “We have begun.” The tremor rolled again. And the war, for freedom, for legacy, for survival, had already begun.

“Even the Moon Readers can’t explain it.” Tharion paced like a caged animal fighting his doubts and fears. He knew the war would be lost without the Goddess Warrior or the Tiger Warrior.
