he muttered. He glanced around. This was his apartment. Everything was exactly as he remembered it. And yet, the air was warm and comfortable. That made no sense. In December 2050, the world had plunged into a new Ice Age. A supernova explosion 500,000 light-years away had triggered a global cataclysm, later called the Frostfall.

It was strange how quickly things had changed between Ethan and me. Not long ago, we were just colleagues—partners thrown together by necessity, trying to survive in a world that seemed intent on tearing itself apart. But now, things were different. We were different. I wouldn’t have believed it if someone had told me months ago that I’d fall for a military commander in the middle of an apocalypse, but here we were. Ethan and I had crossed a line neither of us had intended to, and now we were trying to navigate what that meant while the world around us continued to crumble.

"Don't touch her!" Giovanni screams pushing me off Ariel. He stands up and points a gun at me while I'm shamelessly laying on the ground. "Giovanni what are you doing." I panic with side-eyes.

And I have to say I love being all alone with him, everything feels easy us being alone. We have basically been doing nothing, just watching tv, then making love. Talking about everything but us, I don't think we're ready to talk about us. It's been so long since we have been together like this and I think we're both afraid something will ruin it hence the being alone and not talking about us but enjoying the hell out of each other. We're currently in bed, we just finished watching avengers endgame for the 10th time this weekend.

I didn’t expect the patch to come so soon. In the second month after the battle, the rooftop radio suddenly crackled to life with a crisp broadcast voice. "The Atlas Geothermal Initiative is now active. Surface temperatures will gradually recover. Rescue is on the way." Rhys and I just stared at each other. So this wasn’t a solo survival game after all. It was online, and the admins had finally logged in. A week later, a military helicopter landed in the open lot. Registration and verification went quickly. The officer in charge clapped me on the shoulder. "Turning the apocalypse into a warehouse operation! You’re one of a kind."

Merely minutes in the open, my skin felt like it was scorching. I stayed about a week in the ruins of New York City, finding no one. My artificial intelligence spheres had expanded to 5000, continuously self-replicating. I managed to connect to the old satellites and summoned 200 spheres to venture into outer space, repairing and repurposing the old satellites into new ones. With all communications restored, I learned the grim truth: the world was facing a real apocalypse. World War 3, rampant diseases, and severe climate changes were just the tip of the iceberg.

For the rest of the night, we visit several other quake sites and find that they were all affected in the same manner the Arcata forest was. On the sixth location, my head begins to spin with horrific suspicion. “It can’t be,” I mutter gravely. Mathias and Azazel’s heads snap up to meet mine. “What? What do you think it is?” Mathias asks. I look at the scorched forest then back at one of the weeping trees. “The heavens and the earth will burn; fire and flame will consume all elements. The trees and grass will sweat drops like blood.” Mathias’s expression darkens. “Are you saying that these are signs of the apocalypse?”
