Nyla said quietly, adjusting Josh on her hip as she approached me. I blinked. "Home?" She nodded. "Yeah. I think... he needs his space. Familiar smells. His bed. His toys. I’m scared, Em, but... I think we’ll both breathe better there." I didn’t know what to say. I understood it. Still, the house had felt less haunted since she came. Less lonely. And now she was leaving. Just then, Eddy walked into the room. His shirt was slightly wrinkled from sleep, and he was running his fingers through his hair. But his eyes were alert the moment he heard Nyla’s words.

Alexander’s Perspective Eddy showed up past midnight, the crunch of gravel under his boots giving him away before he even knocked. I didn’t bother looking up until he dropped onto the couch opposite me, stretching like he owned the place. “She’s home,” he said after a moment, voice casual. “Delivered safe and sound, just like you asked. Though I’ve gotta say…” His grin sharpened. “You really missed out. You could’ve gone yourself, you know—chance to pick her up and all.”

Before, D'Writers only occupied the 10th floor but when I acquired the company, I bought the whole building as well because I planned to expand it. D'Writers wouldn't only be an online writing and reading platform but also a subsidiary of EEDON, my novel publishing company under which also, a weekly magazine would be set up. I'd come up with the name EEDON using mine and my father's first names, Eric and Edgar alongside our surname, Donovan. I was determined to be one of the best in the respective fields and with time, I knew I would achieve it.

"Ready to go?" ... Edward's house sat in a quiet neighborhood with tree-lined streets and well-kept lawns that probably had homeowners associations and strict rules about holiday decorations. The house itself was beautiful in an understated way—two stories of warm brick with white trim and a front porch that wrapped around the side. Simple. Elegant. Exactly what I'd expected from Edward. He opened the door before we'd even finished climbing the front steps, his smile genuine and reaching his eyes in a way that made something flutter in my chest.

Trent stepped over what looked like a broken-down lawn mower before stepping into his dad’s house. It had been only a few weeks since he’d last been here, and already it seemed like Edward had trashed the place further. How did a man in a wheelchair manage to collect so much junk? Trent had no idea. Edward barely glanced at Trent when he came inside. He sucked on a cigarette, letting the smoke float in front of his face. A rerun buzzed on the TV; the house smelled even more heavily of smoke and sweat, to the point that Trent barely stifled his gag reflex.

Elliot asked thoughtfully. "Yes! They sold them to me because I paid them enough," Hayden said confidently before turning to look at Edward. "Your house is on Locust Road, right? I've looked into it and your entire family lives there. Say one more word to piss me off and I'll press this button so that you can have a taste of what it's like to lose your family." Edward shivered and clamped his lips shut. "Your family—" Hayden turned to look at Ted. Before Hayden could finish, Ted instantly started shaking his head. "I won't say anything! Not another word!"

The house looks too small from here, but the drive is big enough to fit the two large trucks and the massive SUV we drove over in, loaded with all the equipment we need. Edwardo steps out and heads to the door. He unlocks it and disappears inside. Morgan waits for me, and we both grab a crate from the back of one of the trucks. We carry it inside together, our boots thudding on the steps. The hall is large. The dark mahogany floor is shiny and clean. It’s open-plan, with a large living room on the right of the main entrance, a high chimney breast, and windows all around. The kitchen and dining room are on the left. The stairs sit in the centre.

I say looking through the book. "These houses have been empty for a while." Edward says. "Well, Jackson would have been saying no to punish you. He's done his homework and he knows what you did to me. That's why he would have said no." I say. "He does like to punish people, doesn't he?" Edward asked. And I looked at him with a very straight face and I think he realized that he had just said the wrong thing to say. "There's a small one bedroom house in the middle of town. On Richmond Avenue. Do you know it?" I asked.

"Why don't we have a big house like they do?" The questions are always innocent, and I answer them as best I can. "We have everything we need right here," I tell him, ruffling his hair. "A home isn't just about how big it is-it's about who's inside." And Eddie always smiles, like he believes me. Like that's enough for him.

By Thursday morning, nobody in school could focus on anything except Derek Holloway’s party. The announcement happened halfway through first period after mrs Linda left the classroom for a phone call. Derek stood on top of his chair like an idiot while everybody yelled at him to get down. “My parents are leaving for Chicago tomorrow,” he announced proudly. “Which means my house is legally becoming public property Friday night.” The classroom exploded immediately. “No way.” “You’re lying.” “Bro your neighbors are calling the cops for sure.”
