Every polished surface threw back ghosts of a man who used to matter. He remembered champagne parties on those rooftops. The flash of camera lights. The empty toasts to “legacy.” Now, his stomach was twisting from hunger. He spotted a small diner tucked beneath a flickering sign—Eddie’s 24-Hour. The kind of place you only saw when you had nowhere else to go. Inside, the air smelled of burnt coffee and fried onions. The heat hit him like mercy. A weary cook glanced up from behind the counter. “Kitchen’s closed for orders. You can sit, but no handouts.”

Just as Vanessa was about to answer, Sandra beat her to it. "His name is Ryan. He works for Vanessa. Isn't his body amazing? He's so macho and sexy. And he's such a hardworking guy too, babe. Eddie always made sure his family had enough food to eat. Eddie now had a profitable enterprise working in the Tobacco Field, and Raccoon Trapping. As Seasons changed Eddie would always find another enterprise. He would sale produce and watermelons on the side of the road. Work in the farm’s fields. Winter Deer season was approaching. Eddie had a new rifle and never killed a deer before. He watched the deer through the bedroom window for years. He dreamed on day of being able to kill one and have it for Christmas Dinner. His little sister Carol was looking forward to seeing Santa Clause.

I just wanted to annoy you” Dustin said. Leonard was speechless. He was about to talk when Eddie’s voice came in. “Hi, I’m Eddie and I’m working under Mr Lee. We aren’t…. dating” Eddie uttered with a pursed lips. She didn’t noticed that Leonard’s eyes turned darker as her gaze was only on Dustin who already gave her an unapologetic look.

He jerked a thumb to Edgard. “Who’s that?” “This is my old ropin’ partner, Ed Mancuso. Ed, this is the orneriest coot in the county. Which was why he and Harland West were such good buds.” Edgard thrust out his hand. “Nice to meetcha, Gus.” “A roper, eh? You any good?” “Used to be. I ain’t competing any more.
