"There's a scent outside the study….. it's familiar. Pay close attention, you would smell it." I moved closer to the door, ignoring the weird stares I got from Damien and Danielle. And when I paid close attention like Amber advised, I inhaled the scent. I tried to process the scent and realized that it was indeed familiar. Wait…..I knew that scent. It was the smell of apple vinegar but mixed with milk. It was quite complicated as one could mistake the scent for fox fur too. It was Cyrus's scent. "Oh my goodness! He came." I felt so relieved like a burden had been taken off my shoulders.

Albert The heavy doors of the mansion swung open with a groan, and for a moment, I just stood at the threshold. The scent of polish and fresh paint hit me first, layered over the subtler fragrances of stone, wood, and something unmistakably wolf. Ryse looked away, uncomfortable. “Except Nigel didn’t recognize me…” she murmured. A silence fell. Then, Mrs. Harris continued gently: “When you were little… he liked your scent.” “…” Ryse looked up, stunned. “What?” A faint, nostalgic smile played on Mrs. Harris’s lips. “You might not remember, but Nigel spent all his time with you. He almost thought of you as a little sister. When your body first started releasing pheromones, he was curious, intrigued. He found your scent comforting.” Ryse froze, unable to say anything.

It reminded me of one of those hunter department stores. The ones with pellet guns and taxidermy ducks. I suppose it wasn’t the worst scent to have, but I wasn’t exactly panting over it. “No, we don’t.” I quickly replied in fear I’d lose my voice.
