Graveyard Watchman
I smile into his eyes, flipping the blankets up and tucking them around his shoulders.
He laughs. "Good, I was afraid I was crushing you," he says, gathering me close, his cheek pressed against my hair.
"I wouldn't break that easily," I whisper, suddenly exhausted as I rest my leg over his.
"Mmm," he sighs. "Well, you almost broke me."
We lay silently for a time, warm and snuggled in each other's arms as I drift away to the soft snore of my husband's content.

"Mama?" Laila whispers, nudging me slightly with her palm. "Samuel is gone, wake up."
