When this is over, we are going to have a very long conversation about consequences." Elara swallowed hard, the sharp sting of his words forcing her to compartmentalize her shattered heart. She had to survive the next hour if she wanted to salvage her relationship. Turning abruptly back to the shielded terminal, she initiated the Shadow_Link_Protocol. It was a heavily encrypted, direct-to-satellite hardline that bypassed the island's main server architecture. "Chloe told me to check on Julian," Elara muttered, her fingers d

“You don’t cross it.” “There is no line,” Kaelan corrected, setting his glass down. “There’s a perimeter. And now everyone knows where it is.” He left them then, retreating to his study, the architect of ruin returning to his blueprints. Liam wheeled closer to Elara. “He’s… calibrating,” he said, choosing the word carefully. “Trying to be a protector, not just a conqueror. But his tools are still weapons.” “I know,” Elara breathed, sinking onto the sofa. “I saw it. And a part of me…” She trailed off, ashamed.

Lena was helping the younger ones toward the deeper tunnels. “They came with tech,” Rafe panted as we reached him. “Stun grenades laced with something that messes with our pheromones. Half our outer guards are down.” Kael’s hand found mine, squeezing hard. “Elara, you ready?” I nodded, even though terror clawed at my throat. Surface emotion: pure fear. Core. Inside were six suspended tanks. Five were shattered. The sixth still glowed. Inside floated a girl who looked just like Evryn—except her hair was silver, and her eyes glowed violet. The nameplate read: E.V.E.R. SUBJECT 01 – ELAIA. Suddenly, Vale’s voice boomed through the speakers. “Now you understand. You were the prototype, Evryn. But Elaia is the final form.” The tank hissed. Elara sat on the cold earth, her body still weak from the strange light. Her hands shook. She wanted to believe it was a dream, but Damien’s stare told her it was real. He stood near her, shirt torn, golden eyes burning. “Get her inside,” he ordered Kael. His voice was sharp, but his hand touched her shoulder softer than before. “She doesn’t stay out here.”
