Elder's Bookstore Novels & Stories

Surrounded by the stories I loved. Something that was mine. That had nothing to do with Micaiah or school or the mess my life had become. "One more thing," Edward said as I was leaving. "Employee discount is thirty percent. Use it wisely." "Thirty percent?" "I know. It's dangerous. But it's also the best perk of working here." I left the bookstore feeling lighter than I had in days. Not happy, exactly. The weight in my chest was still there, the numbness still wrapped around everything.

Greta and Gabby made their way to Page Turner’s Bookstore just down the street from the Blue Moon Inn. Once inside the warmth of the large shop, Greta was surprised to see a bright modern shop, which included not only a metaphysical section, but my children’s section, too. With soft upbeat music playing in the background, it didn’t take long to find the shopkeeper chatting away to a rather wild looking dog by a fireplace.

Not security. Not Elena. Lucian. The request startled Elena enough that she looked up immediately from her phone. “You hate bookstores.” “I hate boring bookstores.” Lucian lifted one brow slightly. “And this one is different?” “They have old mechanical stuff upstairs. Typewriters. Maps. Vintage engineering books.” Lucian pretended to consider it seriously. “That does sound aggressively nerdy.” Eli rolled his eyes. “So is that a yes?” Something warm moved unexpectedly through Lucian’s chest.

They eat silently. After lunch they went to the shops. Alicia is excited because she likes buying stuff for Elise. They enter an expensive store of dress but Elise didn't like the idea. She said that she does not need it and she would rather buy books than expensive dresses. Alicia is broken hearted but didn't pursue the thought. She just ordered a few dresses and got out of the shop. Apparently, the store they went to is strange. The book store is bigger inside and feels more like a museum. Is this the central bookstore? Elise can't help herself to be amazed. A spectacular view of endless shelves and magic lights hanging on like a little lamb.

She examines the old, leather-bound spines with wide eyes. "This must have been a mistake," she murmurs, running her fingers over the covers. "Wow… these are… incredible." I step closer. "What is it?" Elizabeth slides out a thick, dusty book from one of the upper shelves. "I’ve heard of this one—it’s a book of legends."

Holy. Lena closed the door, her hand skimming the edge as if shutting a holy vessel. She did not rush to turn off the lights. Rather, she walked between the shelves, letting her fingertips trace worn spines and whitened covers, breathing in the scent of paper and years. The bookstore was her sanctuary. Her cathedral.
