I quickly grabbed it, opened it, and looked at it's contents. The first thing I saw was a picture of Alex and her ex, Mason. It looked like they were dressed for graduation. She had the most beautiful smile on her face, with a blood red dress on. She had her arm around Mason, but his eyes were focused on something other than the camera. I felt my blood start to boil remembering what he had done to her. There was alot of things in there. More photos, small gifts, etc. I started putting everything back when a small cumpled up note fell to the ground. I placed everything into the dresser, and read the note.

Dead or alive! Eleanor's POV Thirty minutes to 3 pm, the room was intensively busy as many maids got me ready for Harrison's meeting. " I can dress, really" " No Eleanor, it's our job. You have to look perfect" a maid said as she dressed me up. The gown was totally something I have never seen. It was exactly my size and I wondered how. It was a red long armless diner gown. I bet even Rihanna hasn't seen this dress before, it's indescribable.

Her gaze flicked toward her reflection, then away just as quickly. Annette moved without hesitation. She scanned the rack, her gaze pausing on a light teal dress with long sleeves and a soft neckline. She picked it up and handed it to Eleanor. “Wear this. It’s elegant, not too loud.” There was a pause. Eleanor stared at the dress for a moment, as if trying to project her nerves onto the fabric. Then, slowly, she nodded and accepted it. “You’re right.” She stepped into the changing area to put it on. The rustle of silk and the metallic click of a zipper followed. When she emerged, she adjusted the necklace at her throat, her movements distracted, stiff.

But someone stopped right in front of me, blocking my path. Eleanor. And… she was wearing the exact same dress I was. “For fuck’s sake, Eleanor. You can’t ever do anything original, can you?” I found myself asking before my brain could even catch up. The dress was identical to mine, but in red. Eleanor had a sickly sweet fake smile on her face as she assessed me from head to toe. “I was wondering how this would look on me after I saw you try it on at the boutique. I think I made the right choice, don’t you?” She flipped her hair back dramatically.

But I still went ahead and bought it anyway. I convinced myself it was just about making sure she looked presentable, that she wouldn't show up to dinner with Eleanor in something plain or forgettable. Eleanor, my father’s wife, looks fancy but sharp. The kind of woman who judged people before they even spoke. One glance from her, was enough to tell you how much or, how little you mattered. I wanted Riley to face that gaze only if she was dressed to match it, with confidence and control. So I chose every piece myself both the dress, clutch, heels, even the delicate gold earrings. I picked a deep green dress that looked effortless, the kind that turned heads without trying too hard.

He must have been highly embarrassed. “He’s a gentleman.” Eleanor remarked. She decided to go with a black tank top, black pair of trousers and some sunglasses, she knew she was being overly dramatic. “This outfit is gonna get a lot of attention!” Eleanor exclaimed, chuckling loudly. In reply, Raven pouted her lips.

Eleanor was already seated when I arrived, looking impeccable in cream Chanel and pearls that probably cost more than most people's cars. She rose to greet me with air kisses and a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. "You look lovely, dear. That color is divine on you." "Thank you." I had chosen my outfit carefully…a navy sheath dress that was professional but feminine, jewelry that suggested wealth without screaming it. "I have to say, I'm curious about what couldn't wait until our next scheduled dinner." Eleanor's laugh was musical and cold. "Direct. I like that. Your father raised you well."

The maids loved looking through Eleanor's dresses because of the fact that they where all designed by a famous designer. "I don't need to wear an extravagant dress, just a simple one will do. I don't want to draw attention on me." Said Eleanor after looking at the dresses on the bed. "I think that even in simple dress, it would be hard to not draw attention with your long white blond hair and beautiful figure." Elise uttered after observing Eleanor and thinking hard for a dress that could make her draw less attention. "Hahaha, don't exaggerate Elise, there's surely a lot of people with my hair color."

During the meal, Joey noticed that Eleanor had been staring at her, the intensity of which made her squirm in her seat. "Did you design the dress yourself?" asked Eleanor elegantly when the dinner concluded. "Yes, I did." Joey nodded. Her dress was sewn with smooth, silky fabric. Its plain but classy color, paired with its delicate embroidery, bestowed upon itself a regal air. Eleanor flashed her a rueful look. "I should have convinced you to sell me your dress. I adore its design."

Tonight she wore a fresh Elie Saab couture piece, nude silk, hand-set with crystals, elegant in a way that made the contrast between them almost cruel. "Sister-in-law, why bother with her?" Tyler drifted over, giving Eleanor a slow once-over. "Showing up like that to a party this important? You trying to embarrass Julian on purpose?" "Tyler, don't say that. Eleanor's not that kind of person." Cassandra's voice went syrupy soft. "It can't be easy, trying to make it on your own like this. If the family cut off her support, where's she supposed to get money for a decent dress?"
