My head is throbbing, and I feel like my brain will explode. On my smartphone, I read some articles about mental illnesses. Apparently, you cross the line into insanity when your mental state stops you from being able to function properly and having a normal life. By those standards, Laura is not the least bit insane. But she’s not herself. I'm the one going nuts. Day after day after day, music, movies, and other loud hobbies fill the air. She even learned to play the guitar! At night, clubs, parties, and god knows what else. I was too tired to keep up with her the last few days.

I ask. “Wait – why is there bruising?” Tom asks the doctors. No matter how rough Tom gets, there’s very rarely any physical evidence of it. “I’ve told you, your wife is insatiable—” Dr. Hogan starts but he’s quickly cut off by Tom. “Didn't you tell me my wife is almost completely insane?! Why would you leave her unsupervised?” Tom shouts. Dr. Hogan stammers, seemingly lost for words. Finally, he says, “we watch her. There are always cracks – moments when our backs are turned. Your wife’s unwell, but she’s not a danger to herself. We occasionally do have more urgent patients.”

Avery pauses for dramatic effect, I love this woman but I kind of want to kick her a little right now. “Ever heard of WLS?” we all shake our heads, no “It’s a type of psychosis brought on by the loss of your wolf. As losing your wolf is so rare the psychosis no one has really heard of it. But I remember it from a case I had a few years ago. If we prove that Nova was in the asylum because of her family, we can argue she has WLS which causes bouts of temporary insanity. I am not going to do that, but if they had opened this door we could have walked this argument through”

All for nothing. Everyday, for five years, I've been living in repetition. Someone once said insanity means doing the same things over and over again while expecting a different result. I'd like to add that insanity is so much deeper than that. It's also doing the same things over and over again while feeling parts of yourself dying a little more each day.

I knew him. “You two…” he said, shaking his head, holding back. “You have an unstable, dysfunctional, ever-changing relationship. You don’t know how to maintain a relationship because you’re emotionally and mentally unstable. And now you’re bringing a baby into the world in the middle of this? In the middle of all this… confusion. Well, you may call it confusion. I call it insanity.” Damn. Bright clenched his jaw but didn’t immediately respond to James’s reaction. I wanted to hide behind him like a little girl, but I stood firm, without crying. Without letting emotion take over. My throat felt tight, and my heart was pounding wildly, but I held myself together.

“Did they hurt you?” Vincent was already nodding before Isaac even completed his question. “I-I'm not crazy. Don't believe anything they tell you. I hate crazy people and Dad knows, he knows, and that's why he brought me here. I can hear them scream and laugh even when I close my ears. I-it is so fucking annoying! Yes, he may be a naive and spoiled brat but he was just insanely adventurous lads. Cavin's adventurous spirit was his condemnation, and his insanity was the thing he feared above all else. The initial results were useless. I refined the query. The top definitions landed one after another: mentally unstable. Out of one’s mind. Acting in a wildly irrational or obsessive way. Someone whose behavior no longer makes sense to anyone else.
