It was the best day ever. Or so I thought at the time. Just like our first date, George took me sailing. He had a picnic of delicacies set up for us. Wine and cheese with fresh fruit, oh, and those amazing crackers I could never get enough of. It was the perfect weather for it, just enough wind without overdoing it. The breeze kissed my skin, leaving goosebumps. I couldn't help but feel as though it were the best day ever. And he said all the right things, looked at me with those eyes, green my favorite color, that seemed to sparkle just so in the sunlight. I was a girl in romance heaven as he fed me grapes.

He stood outside with roses in his hand and apologized to me in the same words, every day. "Lara. I swear I will never see Maya again. "I will not claim her baby. Take everything in my name. Let's start over." I looked at the man. The fixation in his eyes had only one place to go. In the moment he had decided not to save me and the baby, he had been every bit this decisive. The cheapness of him now matched it. I shut the door in his face. He did not stop. He sent flowers every day. He shipped gifts. He camped outside my office.

Just as I was about to blurt out some excuse about a "coincidence" or a "chance encounter", Yoel beat me to it. He casually rested his hand on the cart and said, "Mr. Stone, out shopping today too?" "Yeah," Jeremiah stammered. "My wife told me to pick up some eggs." Yoel gave a small nod. "I see." Then he leaned over as if it were nothing and flicked an imaginary thread from my hair. "I'm just helping to pick up a few essentials for my family."

The fear of cracking some bones slowly disappears when I feel my body press against a stronger chest, the force causing us to fall with a loud thud on the floor. I open my eyes, and realize I had fallen on top of this man with wide hazel eyes and black hair. He stares at me...his eyes widen, and his mouth open like he's about to speak. I lick the bottom of my lips, seeing the edges of his lips slowly curl into a smile. But it disappears so fast like it wasn't there in the first place. He shakes his head abruptly as if trying to remain conscious. 'Hi, I'm Miles.' He says.

hearing the last words from him, she turned around to walk away when he blurted out, "Pray...pray to God that I will keep my mouth shut...or else." "Oh, now you are threatening me…" she cocked her head towards him, a serious expression on her face. "Or else, what? He ducked to feel the ground and he figured out there's a lava flow connecting the volcano and the rock. "Perfect." He muttered to himself. "Let's take a peek at this mysterious journal." He leaned on the rock and opened the journal on the first page. After he read the first page, his heart sank and he couldn't explain the kind of pain it brought. The letter was about Nemiah's grief about losing his childhood friend named Amaris. He closed his eyes and grasped his chest, trying to control the pain he was feeling. But then, he suddenly remembered it all.

Elijah Dawn light spilled into the clearing. Elijah scratched a hand through his dark hair and stared without seeing at the dark swathe of bottle-green pines surrounding them. Pale, fractured sunlight caught the tips of needles and the bends of boughs, highlighting the remnants of birds’ nests and the red belly of a lone robin.
