She locks eyes with me, a sad smile gracing her lips as she stroked her belly. “You don’t get to make those decisions!” Emilio snapped. “You’re just a kid.” Emiliana, fearless Emiliana, stepped forward. Her shoulders rolled back and Vinnie and I already had our hands on our guns. “You’re wrong, Emilio. I am not a kid anymore.” “Gio,” Vinnie warned. “I know.” I had already seen Emilio retreat slowly, his hand gripping something behind his back. “I wanted to believe you had it in you to redeem yourself. I refused to accept that you were capable of this.” She looked at her mother, but all I could see was desolation in those eyes. Liliana was so lost and broken, just like Emiliana.

Mariana. I stared at the book for a while then at Emilia before opening it, I squeezed my face from the dust coming from it. As I flipped through the pages there was nothing important in there. “What did you find?” Emili asked and I shook my head. “Nothing.” There was nothing in here except some old writings I couldn’t make out the words but just when I was about to drop the book, it fell from my hand and something else came out of it.

ELSIE’S POV “You see that stupid happiness you think you have found, you just enjoy it while it lasts. Just wait till he finds out the truth about you.” Emilia’s message read. For a moment, my heart beat so face that I could feel my hands shaky and my mind panicked. But immediately I remembered that two can also play the game, and I felt at ease. I took this as a clue to pay Emilia and her little witch a visit. I think I have given them enough time to enjoy what is rightfully mine, it's high time I take it back.

Emilia was taken to the infirmary, where she was given food, water, and a warm bed to rest in. Kate and Elias stayed with her, offering comfort and reassurance. As the night wore on, Emilia began to open up, sharing bits and pieces of her story. She had been living in a nearby village, under the care of a cruel and abusive man. When she could no longer endure the torment, she had fled into the forest, hoping to find safety. Kate's heart ached for the young girl, and she vowed to do everything in her power to protect her. As Emilia drifted off to sleep, Kate and Elias exchanged a determined look.

Matthew held Emilia’s hand, as if afraid she might get lost. Emilia lowered her gaze, thinking that it had always been like this. It was always Matthew holding her hand and guiding her forward, never changing. Oh, why did the heavens allow a perfect man to be by her side all these years but not give him a clear mind and a heart full of love? Or maybe Matthew knew how to love, but he just never loved her... Matthew led Emilia to the room at the end of the hall on the first floor. There, he activated a mechanism in the bookshelf, and a secret door immediately opened.

“But watch him. Closely.” A warm breeze drifted through the open windows of Dante’s estate. Afternoon sunlight spilled onto the marble floors and filtered into Emilia’s room, where she sat cross-legged on the plush rug, a leather-bound book about wolves and witches open in her lap. Her fingers lazily stroked Mochi’s soft fur as the cat lay curled beside her, its breathing slow and peaceful. Despite the stillness around her, Emilia’s mind was a whirlwind. Every page she turned in the book felt like a reminder of how little she truly knew. About witches. About werewolves. About herself.

Luca said simply while chewing his carrots. Luca was back in his office while Emilia gave herself the tour of the house, she had been in the library for two hours now, lost between pages of different books she had picked up, mostly first edition books. She wondered who read all these book certainly not Luca, at least he didn’t seem like someone who reads anything outside of his business contracts.

That was all. Nothing more. I convinced myself of that and got out of bed. I needed water. The hallway was dark when I stepped outside. I had barely reached the stairs when I noticed a light underneath the library door. I frowned. Who was awake? I pushed the door open. Emilia stood near one of the bookshelves. She had a notebook in her hands. She immediately closed it when she saw me. “What are you doing?” She startled. “Nothing.” I raised an eyebrow.

His head buzzed with anger, his chest burned with the weight of his father’s scorn. He needed air. He needed space. He needed— The scent hit him like lightning. Warm bread. Soap. Wildflowers after rain. His wolf stilled, ears pricking, nose lifting. His pulse spiked, heat flaring low in his belly. Her. Damien slowed, his breath catching, as Emilia stepped from the shadows. She wore a simple cotton dress, her hair dark and loose around her shoulders. She was the maid’s daughter, meant to go unseen, meant to keep her eyes lowered, meant to move silently through the halls of the Blackfang estate like a shadow.

One sufficiently _purged_ of anything as trivial as human mercy. Miranda restrained a shudder as she turned on her heel and returned to the lobby, her footfalls resounding sharply across the marble floors. She realized there was little time to effectively undermine Lila Emerson's small tribe of paupers, especially if she wanted to reestablish Caleb's legitimate authority before Wilkins' manipulations took root.
