"David thinks he has us cornered. He thinks he's watching the walls close in."
"He's not watching the exit," I said.
Endall nodded. "Exactly. Get some rest, Alice. It’s going to be a long night."
I headed for the door, but paused before leaving. I looked back at him. "Endall?"
"Yeah?"
"Thank you."
He didn't answer, just turned his attention back to the papers on his desk, already plotting, already scheming.
I walked out into the hallway, the fire in my chest keeping the cold at bay. For the first time since I arrived in Switzerland, I didn't feel like a victim. David wanted to play a game of chess? He thought he was the only one who knew how to move the pieces?
