It seemed desolate, as if Jeniece had never come back since that day. A rusted rack caught his attention, and upon it lay a pile of books, their covers worn and edges worn. He reached for one, its brittle pages crumbling in his hands, each page stained with the yellow hue of age. These books, ancient and forgotten, held secrets that had been hidden in plain sight, truths we had been blind to. Just as Hunter began to delve into the faded words, a shiver ran down his spine. He wasn't alone. Instinctively, he spun around, his whip slicing through the air with deadly speed. But before the whip could find its mark, it was caught mid-strike.

She bit her bottom lip, afraid of what his answer would be. “I honestly don’t know, Love. I’ve exhausted a lot of resources, but there is nothing on them. No dental records. No missing persons’ reports. Although I do have a theory…” This piqued her interest as her weary eyes started to shine brightly again. “And that would be…?” He placed his hands on either side of her face,capturing her attention. “I think they were Hunters. It would explain quite a bit…” Claire interrupted, “What exactly is a Hunter?”

Mom could never show her face there again. I blocked her number but continued having someone deliver a book of scratch cards to her mailbox every month. I was not worried about her winning big. Scratch cards followed patterns. The ones I sent were carefully selected from batches where the grand prizes had already been claimed. Ironically, Mom really did get sick, just like she had claimed when she tricked me into coming home. She had a stroke. She survived but could no longer take care of herself. She would spend the rest of her life in bed.

I needed it to wash the mud off my wounds, but they refused to let me get close. My colleagues were guarding the place, and they were all glaring at me. "Ms. Hedge found this! You don't deserve it, bitch!" Fortunately, this island was abundant with resources. Wilderness survival was all the craze a few years ago, and many content creators came here to get useful footage. They also left useful stuff behind. I'd skimmed through everything during my search for water. I went to the dump and scrounged some plastic bottles and a cast-iron skillet.

They'd been murderers who'd reshaped reality to cover their crime. "This is why the hunters came," Luna said to Vincent, suddenly understanding. "The hunters aren't servants of some greater power. They're survivors. They're the remnants of that destroyed world, existing partially outside of normal dimensions because it's the only way they can survive in the reality that was built to eliminate them. They're still hunting because they're still terrified."

It would have made everything so much easier, but since I wasn’t even supposed to be privy to that information, I couldn’t very well share it with him. Angela was the first to ease his fears by explaining that she was actually a member of a worldwide secret group that was dedicated to ridding the world of zombies. She was one of their trained soldiers and had battled many a zombie in her day; as had Evan. She looked at me apologetically as she explained the necessity to hide behind the façade of being a traveling social worker and an author to allow them the freedom they needed to move around and disappear for days at a time while they hunted and took down the zombies.

Hunter declared “I insist, please,” she begged him. She got her phone and called Melanie. She asked to meet her as soon as possible. Being a good friend, Melanie drove to Ludo and found her with Hunter. “Is that….?” Melanie paused. “Yes, that’s Hunter. I don’t have time to explain things now but did you hear about what happened in Chisoti village?” “Yes, don’t tell me he did…” Ludo interrupted her, “No. Apparently, he’s the hero and there are some people looking for him and the last surviving child of the dead chief. He needs a place to crash.”

“Are they really going to just let me fall back?” That's actually... cause me a sigh of relief. I'm tired by the eyes that following my every steps! Then there's Grandma I notice anxious and been in contact with the messengers lady. And everyone of them is given grandma a jade, however it only cause Grandma to deeply anxious. Then her expression greatly change, she said in certainty, “It must be those horrible species! The Lycan kidnapped the future of the huntress!” “Future... of the huntress?” I curiously eyed everyone that suddenly voice out their wanting to wipe out the species they despise.

He never had and somehow, he maintained his sanity. I listen to him continue his words. "It will always be at the back of the Hunter's mind that we are here to hurt them. And more also, you know other hunters, like the ones in Antarctica, Asia and North America...since they didn't allow our specie to live freely in their continent, trust me, others would look weak if they try to allow us to have that chance. I can say that's what that fucker Cole Hunter is feeling, and that's why he wants us back into our abode." Hillary finishes explaining and as much as I want to try to change his words, deep down, I cannot, because I know it is the truth.
