I stood up and moved to the door, stepping out onto the deck.
Theron was there, exactly where he had said he would be. He looked tired, his eyes heavy, but his posture was still straight and alert. He turned as I came out, a small smile touching his lips.
“Good morning,” he said softly.
I walked to his side, looking out over the bow.
And there it was.
Rising out of the sea ahead of us, dark and rugged against the brightening sky, was the island.
It was not large. It stretched maybe a few kilometers long, a mass of rock and steep hills covered in dense green forest that came right down to the water’s edge. Cliffs rose high on all sides, broken only by narrow inlets and hidden bays.
