Morana did though, and she didn't say a word. Esmeralda said that she laid there as patiently as she could, and just as she heard her aunt's voice come close enough to her to be fatally struck by her magic, she sat straight up and fired everything that she had at her. That turned out to be a huge mistake, though, because Morana had played yet another cruel trick on her. She had made Esmerelda's husband's voice sound just like her own, causing Esmeralda to believe that it was Morana approaching her. She didn't expect to see him when she opened her eyes and sat up. She wrote that when she fired that deadly shot, it was her own husband she had hit and most definitely killed.

"You signed up for this. Either we go down together, or you go down alone." Esmeralda scoffed, feigning innocence as she tilted her head back to stare at the ceiling. "Funny. I distinctly remember signing up because some 'historical relic of a man' needed serious help." Zach narrowed his eyes. "Watch your mouth, Esmeralda." He leaned in slightly. "If I recall correctly, you were the one who practically begged to explore Dr. Takahashi's manor and even agreed to go without any search warrant. You said—and I quote—'This is the most exciting case we’ve ever had.' So don’t lie to my face now."

My vein pulsed frantically beneath her grip, and a weak groan of pain escaped me. “Any last words?” Kemilly murmured, her breath hot against my skin. “You stupid wolf, you’re killing the wrong one. I told you—I’m Esmeralda.” I smirked faintly, blood trickling from my lips. “It’ll be hilarious when you realize it… Too bad I won’t be here to see it.” Without hesitation, she bit down harder, tearing into my throat and slamming me to the ground. I convulsed in agony, my body drowning in blood.

He already thought that getting the chance to cop a feel with these stunning beauties was the pinnacle of his luck, but there was more in store for him from Lady Luck, huh? Emeralda was the most drop-dead gorgeous beauty in an already impressive collection, and she was clearly the leader of the gang! That would be like copping a feel from an actual princess! The man quickly sidled toward Emeralda and stretched out his hands, his claw-like fingers reaching for Emeralda's ample bosom. The young woman closed her eyes and clenched her fists. I shook her limp body as if I could pull her back from whatever dark force she had surrendered to. Esmeralda clapped slowly, mockingly, as though entertained by the tragedy. “Touching. Truly. But it changes nothing. Two souls down and a debt as old as time finally paid… my mothers and sisters would be proud.” She lifted her hand to summon only the goddess knew what. But she never finished the motion.

She said and everyone look at her as if she has grown two heads.

Eliza’s mother asked her now. Esmeralda rolled her eyes. “Ugh! Don’t get me started. The place was packed with people. You remember Amelinda?” She indicated Tres’s little sister. Amelinda was maybe nine with maple brown eyes and glistening waist-length dark brown hair. Except for the eyes—which had come from Charlie—she was almost an exact replica of Esmeralda. “Of course,” gushed Liz, bending down to the girl’s level. “You are so pretty.”
