Mister was having a very bad day and the doctor didn't want to be on the receiving end of any of his frustrations. It didn't take long for them to run into their actual driver up the trail a little ways. Mister was so damn irritated that when the driver stopped the machine next to him, he snatched him out and tossed him aside as he jumped into the driver's seat and took off before the doctor could even get all the way in. Mister hit the gas and took off sideways, spraying dirt and gravel all over the discarded driver. "What an asshole," the driver said to Mister's back as he drove away, full speed ahead.

I swat his legs off the screen. "Hey!" "Manners." He pauses, then his gaze drifts to our guest, then back. "Max is probably wondering if we really are who the rumors say." I don't bother correcting him. It's an intentional mistake. Instead, I lean into the small chair he's left me with. Below us, the Pit master unlocks the cage door with a heavy metal key. Conversations dip, then rise again like a tide. Two men walk through, both imposing.

I rarely saw Mason have such an expression, and anxiety began to gnaw at my mind. "The man who tried to hit you was a local hooligan who goes by the name Dragnet.
