We burst through the doors together, and the sight that greets us is worse than anything I imagined. Vega stands in the center of a circle drawn in what I realize with horror is our blood—silver-red liquid that glows with unnatural light. Reynard kneels at one point of the circle, his hands pressed to symbols that channel the stolen power directly into Vega's ritual. "Too late," Vega says without turning around. "The Ascendance is nearly complete. Soon I'll possess all the power of the balanced heir, and your precious bond will be nothing but a memory."

She was angry at being summoned. “I need your help, Goddess.” “Why should I help you?” I gave this question some thought for a moment before I came to an answer. “Because if you do not, your people will be in danger…” This seemed to spike her interest. A perfectly formed brow arching at the statement. “Speak.” This was all she needed to say. She was a Goddess after all. Her presence alone was enough to command armies. “I am Melinda Black. Both then turn their heads towards the crowd and wave their hands before declaring that everyone should enjoy the party. "Congratulations dear." Damian, the former alpha king says looking proud.
