Her hand touched a small box with an unusual symbol on it that seemed to glow like the sun. She pulled open the lid and picked up the book inside to see it. She read its name under her breath, "Exorcism: Eldritch Werewolves." Her eyes widened when she found out it was a witchcraft book about werewolves. The words "magic" and "witches" didn't sound right in her mind, and she didn't want to believe the things she was reading, but somehow she did. She put the book back into the box and saw the ashes that scattered nearby. From among the ashes, she saw a half-burnt picture of Emily and the scarf she had given her on her last birthday. It brought tears to Esen's eyes.

After a quick victory dance that resulted in me kicking the door and sending it flying off its hinges, I bent down to slide the box out of it’s hiding place. Sure enough, inside was four different books, each one named after one form of magic or another. I scooped them into my arms and made quick work of slinking back into the shadows, willing the slippery little bastards to transport me somewhere else—to the very person who sent me on this mission. “You’re late.” Ember’s snarky voice permeated the room I teleported into. The stone crafted fire place to my left was the only source of light, casting a number of shadows along the heavily decorated walls.

“Light the match.” Twenty minutes later. The gasoline reeked like war. Lucien poured it over the staircase and floors. Ember stood in the living room with the final piece in her hands her old ballerina music box. The one Rafael had given her. She opened it. A lullaby played. The same one from her nightmares. A large island in the center of the closet held an array of jewelry, colognes, and other personal items, each displayed with careful consideration. When Willow let me back in front again, I was just staring at the black box she got earlier in Alpha Rick's secret room. I was hesitant to open the black box but I am curious what was inside. The box is 14 inches wide and 8 inches in height. I tried to lift it up and boy it was heavy! I released a long breath and slowly uncovered the black box in anticipation. I was a little bit nervous. A big thick old book greeted me. I take it out and read the big title. The Gifted Hybrid.

Della exclaimed. Leslie laughed as she opened the box. She gasped and lifted out the necklace inside. It was a deep red stone set in a plain gold chain. The stone was a deep rich red that seemed to hold the light rather than simply reflect it. Leslie held it up and went very still. "It is the Lonefur Ember," she said in excitement. "I did not think he would part with this. I did not think he was capable of it." "What is the Lonefur Ember?" I asked.

There was pain in her voice. Ember’s throat tightened as images of the village filled with dead bodies and blood flashed into her mind. She pushed those thoughts away, she can’t afford to be distracted now. She has to concentrate to be able to unleash her power that her grandmother had locked. “What is that?” Ember referred to the book that Yvette had in hand, though she already had an idea what kind of book it was. Yvette carefully placed the book on her lap as she occupied the couch opposite from Ember. She wiped the dusty surface of the book with her own bare hands.

POV: Ember. The sun had begun to dip behind the trees by the time Ember returned. The big house smelled like rain and pine, and everything was quiet—too quiet for a house that held a child. She stepped inside cautiously, her boots leaving faint prints on the wooden floor. “Asher?” she called, her voice soft but steady. “In here,” came his reply—from their room.
