And Evelyn smiled. “Let’s see who’s worthy of becoming gods.” Final Scene, Alma’s Reflection Back in her quarters, Alma watched a video Evelyn had left behind, one that had been locked until Phoenix was defeated. Her mother sat in a lab, older than Alma remembered. “I knew you’d survive, Alma,” Evelyn said in the recording. “Because you were made to choose, not control.”

Sweat dripped from his forehead, muscles twitching uncontrollably as the serum coursed through him. “This is it,” Kai whispered, voice shaking. “The serum… it doesn’t just change them. It spreads. EVO carries it… and it passes on.” The footage cut briefly. A woman entered the frame — her face blurred, her identity unknown, unremarkable to the casual observer. EVO’s presence was implied. The camera didn’t linger, only captured faint flashes: her hand twitching, veins darkening beneath pale skin, posture stiffening unnaturally. Kai’s whisper carried over the static:

The shard shattered completely, its energy dispersing in a burst of light. Evangeline screamed, the force of the attack disrupting her hold on the remaining shards. The second explosion rocked the chamber, sending all three of them sprawling. Aria groaned, pushing herself up on shaky arms. She saw Evangeline lying amidst the rubble, her body limp, her dark aura fading. The remaining shards hovered in the air, pulsating with unstable energy.

With a coordinated motion, Eva and her nearest companion struck in tandem, energy colliding with the creature in a controlled explosion of light and darkness. The creature staggered, then dissolved into mist, leaving only a faint echo of its presence. The rest of the monsters hesitated, disoriented by the precision and unity of the bond. Eva seized the moment, directing a wave of radiant energy toward them. One by one, they dissipated into the shadows from which they had emerged. The arena fell silent. Eva’s chest heaved, sweat and grime streaking her face, hands still glowing faintly. She had survived the trial not alone, but as part of something greater.

A pause. Very small. But Eva sees it. Cassian Vale saw it too. For the first time since Eva has known Cassian Vale, something behind Cassian Vale’s expression doesn’t settle back into place immediately. Not anger. Something closer to exposure. Eva turns fully now. “You’re not even surprised I found it,” Eva says. “You’re just surprised I understand it.”
