"The one to the left is Mel, and the other one is Yap." I shook their hands, still a bit uneasy and unsure in the presence of these strangers, but doing my best to hide it. My senses finally allowed me to tag a name onto the wolves that had previously chased me. Mel would be the black wolf, and Yap was the dark brown one.

Then smiles broadly at Jessie who was still staring at him, “Hello, Jessie. I’m Vali.” She nods and holds out a hand. He shakes it and she nods. “Hi. Are you a black hat?” Ash chuckles, “He’s more sort of grey at the moment, but we’re working on him.” She narrows her eyes and nods. “But he won’t hurt you, he knows what would happen if he did.” She grins, and nods.

Cassia took in the room with one look. Glass on the carpet. Stella over me. Me on the floor, holding the urn. She did not slow down. She crossed the room in three steps. She caught Stella's arm in that half-second of confusion, then pulled the urn out of her hands. She moved into Stella's space. Stella swung at her. Cassia caught it. I did not wait. I clamped my arms around the urn and crawled, hands and knees, glass under me, out to the SUV. I yanked the back door open and folded into the seat.
