THE PRICE FOR HIS NAME
Bunker 038 had been a letdown, a so-called time machine that turned out to be a hollow set piece, possibly a distraction.
But Bunker 039?
This one was Samuel’s favorite.
Because it had Excalibur.
Or so he claimed.
It lay in the center of the chamber, half-buried in sand, its hilt wrapped in aged leather. The blade itself glinted beneath the bunker lights, miraculously untouched by time.
Samuel had found it first, and like a kid on Christmas, immediately declared ownership.
"Do you even hear yourself?" Joy asked, watching him struggle to lift it. Her voice was flat, unimpressed.
