Am I supposed to be impressed?” The sarcasm barely lands before that disgusting grin stretches across his face. “As a matter of fact, yes,” he says proudly, tapping one thick finger against the transfer papers. “My latest purchase. Figured it was finally time I owned a little vacation home.”

"It’s a beautiful house. I’m sure you’ll enjoy owning it." William stepped closer, invading my personal space until I was backed against the cold glass. He was a head taller than me, his shadow swallowing mine. "I don't just own the house, Elias," he said, his voice dropping to a vibration I felt in my chest. He reached out, his hand hovering near my face before his fingers grazed the lapel of my suit, straightening it with agonizing slowness. "I own the legacy. And whether you like it or not, you are the most volatile part of that inheritance."

I began, my voice thick with disbelief, “are you… are you serious about this? About giving me all my shares back?” He nodded, his gaze steady and sincere. “Turn the page Logan.” My fingers trembled slightly as I flipped the document. The next page detailed the transfer of ownership, not just of the shares, but of the entirety of my inheritance, the properties, the assets, every damn thing that Pierce owned. My jaw dropped. It was a complete and unconditional handover. It was… everything.

"Talkin' 'bout suggestions, miss, I suggest you to review your ownership documents before preachin' here. The new owner is in your office at the moment. You can go preach 'im instead. I ain't got time to dally." I rushed to the elevators and pressed the button to the topmost floor. I felt like my whole world was about to fall apart. Jack touched the cursor and spoke the only answer that had ever mattered. "No one owns it." The Source Code dimension went silent. Then every named voice in the distributed firewall repeated him. No one owns it. The Tail screamed. The World Eater paused. The Prime Analyst froze. And from somewhere beyond the Authorial Lock, a new voice answered. "Then prove you can finish it without an owner." The Source went black. When light returned, Jack was standing at the first dinner table again. Vance was smiling. Katherine had not yet looked at him. And the system in his head was silent.

Janna’s voice was composed and firm. “I don’t believe it. I want her to tell me that in my face.” Vincent tried to shove Janna out of the way.
