"Whoa..." I stab at the keyboard, reversing the slideshow. What did I see? The previous face is still a stranger. I don´t know it. I click back again. And the familiar stares out at me, from years past; older than I remember, but still the same face. The forehead is higher, hair greyer, but the same cold, deadpan eyes stare blankly out; no emotion there, the gaze of a monster. There are monsters in the world, and most of them look like real people.

Monstrous emotions twirled up in Rosaleen's eyes as she stared back at her reflection from the mirror. What was real pain other than this? She could see bloodstains all over even though she knew they weren't there, but they were there. They stared back at her. Her pupils shook, firing back at the pool of blood. " Rosaleen," her mother howled from the kitchen, a tint of excitement in her voice. This was when she snapped out of her daze.

His eyes are entirely pitch black, and he doesn’t look the slightest bit bothered even as Vanya chokes and sputters, her shaking fingers desperately trying to push his boot off. “I don’t hit women, Vanya. But I fight monsters and crush them because I can. And you…you’re just another breed of monster. The kind that is destined to die by my hands.” She coughs up blood, struggling to breathe. Her eyes are bigger than I’ve ever seen them, bulging in their sockets. She looks…terrified. Slowly, he moves his feet off her throat, and she chokes. I watch as he crouches in front of her, staring at her with a blank look on his face.

He said calmly. Oh did he hate hate rodents The grass that day had been cold against his body, reminding him that this dream truly was a reality. His face was swollen and red, skin marred with several scars and just below the shirt that had shrunk over the years, imprinted on his skin was– 'Monster'..... But even though his face throbbed, even though as he stretched his lips to allow the simplest of smiles his swollen face ached and caused spasms of throbbing pain through his body, he still smiled, showing this pearly white gummy smile.

He was bending down in front of me, his face only inches away from my own. “One tear, one lash” I yelled back, trying my best to keep my voice sounding strong. Even though all I wanted was to cry. “Again!” he roared, his hot breath bashed against my face as he screamed, “One tear, one lash” I screamed back loudly. “What are you?” he demanded, “A monster” “What are you?” “A monster!” “And what do monsters not do?” “Monsters don’t cry” I yelled as loud as I could. “And why don’t monsters cry? Tell me beast, what’s the rule?”
