**Five Years Later** {SERENA POV} I stand at the window of ETHEREAL’s New York headquarters, watching the city I once fled from. The city where Adrian destroyed me. Where I was humiliated, betrayed, broken. Now I’m back. Not as Adrian’s wife. Not as anyone’s victim. As Serena Moore-Grant, CEO of a global fashion empire, wife to the love of my life, and grandmother to six beautiful grandchildren. Lucas appears behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist. “Thinking about the past?”

The nerve. “I am Rhiannon. The Celtic Goddess of horses, dragons, fae, and hummingbirds. I am also your goddess. I have been watching and I must say I’m very impressed with what you have done so far. But this isn’t the end, Serana. You and Vilkas need to restore the balance of each kingdom.” I bite my lip and look away from her. “I didn’t ask for this. Nobody asked for this. Yet here we are, the world is fucked. Yet it falls on our shoulders to restore. Why me? Why us?” I turn to look at her as she glides closer to me, her hands clasped in front of her.

Serena’s POV What should I do? Oh God. Please save me. I don't want to die. They wore black suits with a few buttons open and the tattoos told me I wasn't dealing with regular people. “Miss Serena,” the middle one and the tallest said. His voice was smooth but cold. “We're sorry for your loss.” Did he expect me to respond to that after scaring me half way to death? I kept quiet, shivering as he came closer.

“You have your mate to do it.” And there is was! The pun! “Talking about knocking people out,” Dr Serena sighed. “Here,” and she pushed a big vat of greenish potion. “And what is that?” Kira asked. “You and your mate seem quite fertile,” Dr Serena spoke and as usual her directness made Kira blush. “And while I would love to take care of dozen of our alpha princes and princesses, I don’t think your body can handle it if you have them at short intervals!”

Kael stood nearby breathing heavily, blood dripping from his arm, both of them watched Serena carefully but Serena only looked at me and hatred still burned inside her eyes. “You think you won?” she whispered and her voice shook badly but I said nothing. The battlefield still trembled beneath us and small pieces of the broken ritual circles cracked apart slowly. Serena laughed weakly and then suddenly her expression twisted again and age exploded across her face. “You stole everything from me!” Dark energy burst from her body again and the wolves around us shouted in shock. “Lyra!” Kael yelled. Serena moved fast, too fast and she rushed toward me screaming wildly.

She definitely knows my mate, but why would she be asking about her? “What do you mean? Who are you?” I’ve stepped closer, and her eyes are stuck on me. They are growing bigger and bigger. I guess my aura is enough to have her feeling this way, but who knows. “I… I’m Serena. I came here to meet with Akia. We were sitting and talking, but then I felt pain and darkness took over.” My hands clench at my sides. I don’t need her to say anything else. I know exactly what she’s telling me, and I want to throw up.

“Then why hasn’t she broken?” “Because,” I said calmly, “she hasn’t yet understood what she carries.” I extended my hand over the basin. The liquid stirred violently, forming images. Aria. Kaelen. Fire and moonlight intertwined. And then— A flicker. Something smaller. Something hidden. Serena sucked in a breath. “She’s pregnant,” she whispered. I smiled. “Yes.” The word tasted exquisite. Serena stared into the basin, horror and fascination warring across her face. “That’s impossible. She’s too powerful—too volatile. The goddess would never allow—”

I’d gotten used to being invisible long before Serena came to live with us when we were ten. Serena was half succubus and half siren. She had amazing blue eyes that sparkled with purple streaks bursting from her pupil and, tonight, was wearing her glossy, dark chocolate brown hair in a braid down her back. It was easy to see she wasn’t exactly into the idea of going to this bar.
