Werewolves screamed and scattered. A silver arrow laced with wolfsbane shot out from the shadows. I didn't have time to react. Death seemed certain. Kaiden's hard, searing body slammed into me, a familiar scent of cedar washing over me as he pinned me to the ground. The sound of an arrowhead sinking into flesh was piercing, even over the blast. Kaiden let out a muffled grunt, his body shuddering violently, but his hand never left the back of my head, shielding me.
