Maybe because they have not been getting enough blood lately, their bodies are starting to change, and they are starting to be afraid of light now. They hide in dark places to find their prey during the day. Maya had indeed seen the same incident in the lab where they had been researching zombies all along. But until now, there has been no definite theory that explains why the zombies they have locked up in the lab can suddenly burn as if a high-temperature light has burned them down. If Felix did have memories of such a horrific act, it would certainly explain his own extreme fear of being eaten. He knew that if Kendra was there, she’d be on the porch shooting arrows into the heads of the zombies so fast that they wouldn’t know what hit them. He’d be doing it too if he had her skill. Before she realized what was happening, the zombie sank those newly formed fangs into Kendra’s forearm. Screaming from shock, fear, and pain, she struggled to free her arm. Taken by surprise, Rex wrestled for a few seconds to gather his wits. When he did, he wasted no time in leaping forward and driving his blade into the zombie’s temple. With its powerful fangs embedded into Kendra’s arm, when it slumped to the ground, the abomination took his wife down with it. “My arm,” Kendra wailed as she fell to her knees. “Those fangs are stuck in my arm. I think they’re in the bone!”

‘A fucking survival plan would be much more appreciated at the moment,’ I spoke to her, slashing off the heads of zombies who lunged at me. ‘God, where are you, Diana?’ Zephyr mind-linked me. There were almost thousands of zombies in the crater that smelled like rotten meat and rotting fishes. Of course, it was impossible for him to spot my exact location. I couldn’t say where I was. He was just looking head-on with a strong expression. Every student in this class is a vampire. Their stares make me feel uneasy, just like my first day on the mansion. She doubted a zombie would be able to locate her there, even an advanced zombie. One of the things about zombies that stayed with them, no matter how much of their thinking and motor skills returned was the fact that they had poor night vision, depth perception, and were color blind. Those factors went in her favor since the opening to the root cellar was beneath a very realistic looking shrub that was attached to the trap door. Its coloring varied from those it was amongst only by the slightest degree and, unless you ran your hand over it, you’d never guess it wasn’t real. Combine that to the fact that it was nighttime, and she felt safe in her selection of hiding places.

I was about to make a break for it back down the driveway, when a hand grabbed mine. My body was engulfed in invisible flames. The pain was incredible. I closed my eyes and let it surround me.
