He immediately wrapped a soft blanket around her and pulled her into his arms on a nearby couch. “How are you feeling?” he asked, stroking her hair. Eden took a moment to answer. “Strange,” she said honestly. “But… good. Really good.” Julian nodded, clearly pleased. “That’s called subspace,” he explained gently. “It’s a natural response to surrender and endorphins. It can feel overwhelming at first.” They sat in silence for a while as Eden came down. Julian continued to hold her, occasionally offering her water and checking in.

The colors of the room solidified, and the Innkeeper, still wide-eyed, slowly came back into focus, his mouth agape. I stood there, breathing heavily, the parchment still clutched in my hand.
