"One heart has changed." The former Shadow looked toward the northern sky. "Only one?" The Rootkeeper nodded. "One is enough." Harbor laughed softly. "That's how forests begin." The child grinned. "And stories." As the emerald star continued shining... The blank book in the observatory turned one final page. This time... It did not ask a question. It revealed a map. Not of kingdoms. Not of mountains. Not even of worlds. It was a map of doorways. Thousands of tiny white lights connected by living green paths.

Gabriel didn't answer. Aria took the book from him. Something fell from between the pages. A piece of black parchment. Gabriel's face changed. "Where did that come from?" "It was inside the book." He carefully unfolded it. A map appeared. But it wasn't a map of India. It showed the entire world. Seven locations were marked. Then an eighth. It was in the middle of the ocean. Lorenzo frowned. "That's impossible." "Why?" "There's nothing there." Gabriel shook his head.

The council room had emptied, leaving Esmeralda alone with the lingering scent of ink, wax seals, and old stone. The torches along the walls flickered, casting long, dancing shadows across the maps that sprawled across the table. The maps themselves were her playground, her tools, each line and symbol a potential weapon or leverage point. Her fingers traced the borders of Silvermark’s territory, the minor packs surrounding it, the roads, the rivers, and the hidden valleys. Each line sparked a calculation, a possibility, a plan that only she could see.

I still felt like a ghost of my former self. I packed my belongings into my travel bag slowly. There was no reason to rush. Once my tent was packed away and my bag was slung over my shoulder, I pulled my map from my pocket. It was a normal enough map at first glance. There were no marking of any kind on it, which made it seem like I had just picked it up from a town. “Reveal to me the route I seek,” I whispered softly. At the sound of my spell, the map shone faintly and a series of paths were illuminated along with symbols denoting the location of hidden witch towns. I smiled at the map. This spell was so simple, but it did so much to keep our people safe.

Uri's eyes lit up; he felt he saw hope. "Maybe, but where is Stone Island? Since then, a long time has passed, and the names of the places have changed, certainly no longer the same as the old names." Finn said. Uri turned to another page and carefully read each inscription; the content was not remarkable. But on the last page of the book, he saw something special. "There's a map." He exclaimed happily. Finn also recognized it as a map etched into the golden page, which was the book's back cover.

This was kind of my symbolism for pushing through, not giving up, and valuing perseverance. Aside from that, I had no clue what to do. So I just started googling fantasy maps and how to make them. I somehow stumbled my way upon freefantasymaps.com where there were these mapmaking competition entries. I fell in love with the style of this one map entry I saw there, called The Land of Mórthyr, created by Warren Godone-Maresca. But yeah…when I tried to emulate his technique, let’s just say it didn’t work out so well. But I fiddled around with one version for four hours before thinking I’d just settle for that, even though I wasn’t completely satisfied with it. The dissatisfaction followed me, a

Making my way to a nearby table, I carefully laid the book down, anticipation bubbling within me like a dormant volcano ready to erupt. Opening the book, I was greeted by the sight of intricate maps sprawled across its pages, each line and contour telling a story of the land it depicted. The Five Courts of Lyria unfolded before me, a tapestry of hills, valleys, lakes, and rivers stretching out like a canvas waiting to be painted. My fingers danced across the paper, tracing the topography.

She raised a hand like she wanted to stop me, but didn’t dare. I reached the door. Opened it. Walked through. I didn’t wait to get far from the hut before opening the book again. My hands were still shaking, but I forced my voice steady. “Show me the path,” I told it. “I need a map back to pack.” The pages fluttered and the ink bled through in thin, crooked lines, sketching out the forest, the village, the river. But this time… there were dark spots, pulsing black circles that weren’t on any map I’d seen earlier.
